Madonna's gig in Marseilles was cancelled

Madonna jetted to France to visit the family of a man who died while erecting a stage for her concert.

Charles Criscenzo, 53, and Charlie Prow, 23, were killed on Thursday as they were setting up a temporary roof at the Stade Velodrome in Marseilles.

Madonna, 50, was due to perform at the venue yesterday but cancelled the Sticky & Sweet gig.

Dressed in black and wearing a crucifix, she was snapped hugging Charles’ widow and giving her a bouquet of white roses.

Madge also visited two of the city’s hospitals to see eight other injured workers.

'She wants to make a positive gesture,' a spokesman tells the Daily Mail. 'She will be showing solidarity with the victims' families.

'She has been hugely moved by what happened, and feels very personally involved.'

Meanwhile, French prosecutors have launched an investigation into the accident.
