Star's followers said to have taken their own lives

Michael Jackson's former Neverland ranch could become a shrine to the singer

Up to a dozen Michael Jackson fans have committed suicide because of his death, according to the singer's biggest online fan club.

A Brit is said to be among the followers reported to have taken their own lives since Thursday.  

‘I believe the total figure is 12,’ says Gary Taylor, the president of MJJcommunity.com.

‘It is a serious situation that these people are going through but Michael Jackson would never want this. He would want them to live.’

Meanwhile, The Samaritans has urged sites covering Michael’s death to publish its telephone number so those affected can contact them.

‘We are aware that some people might be distressed... Samaritans are there for them,’ says spokeswoman Nicola Peckett.

‘Michael obviously had a huge impact on the lives of many fans and the death of someone in the public eye can have a profound affect on people emotionally.’
