Lucy-Jo Hudson is relieved to have escaped unharmed

Lucy-Jo Hudson has revealed that she was held hostage by a machete-wielding gang while working in South Africa.

The former Coronation Street star was on a night out at a music show near Johannesburg when 8 armed men burst in demanding money.

‘Halfway through the performance I saw guards walking through the theatre and then the lights went on,’ she says. ‘One of the performers said: “Don’t worry, but we’re in the middle of a robbery.”'

The actress had just finished work on the latest series of ITV drama Wild At Heart. 'It was supposed to be a night out to celebrate finishing filming, but it went horribly wrong,' she tells the Daily Record.

Lucy-Jo, 25, says she and other theatregoers barricaded themselves into a room backstage until police finally arrived to arrest the robbers.
