Brokeback Mountain star's body found in Manhatten

Heath Ledger has been found dead in New York.

The Brokeback Mountain star was only 28 and his death is suspected to be drug-related, say police investigators.

Heath was found unconscious this afternoon in a Manhatten apartment, surrounded by pills.

A housekeeper went to tell him that a masseuse had arrived to give him a massage and called the emergency services, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne tells the New York Times.

The Australian-born actor became involved with actress Michelle Williams while fiming Brokeback Mountain with Jake Gyllenhaal in 2005. The couple have a baby daughter but split up last year.

Heath worked most recently alongside Cate Blanchett in I’m Not There.

He stars as The Joker in Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight.
