Sophie Ellis-Bextor impressed on Strictly Come Dancing at the weekend.

The singer, 34, was awarded four 9s by the judges after performing an energetic Charleston with partner Brendan Cole, which was described by Darcey Bussell as 'just perfect'.

Sophie donned a gold 20s-inspired dress for the flapper routine and showed off her athletic skills as she was twirled around by Brendan, 37.

Tony Jacklin's routine with Aliona Vilani, however, was labelled 'limp, lame and lacklustre' by judge Craig Revel Horwood.

After facing the dance-off against fashion designer Julien Macdonald, 69-year-old golfer Tony became the first celebrity to be voted out of the competition.

Meanwhile, Vanessa Feltz welled up as she admitted that she found dancing with James Jordan very emotional.

'I didn't really realise that dance could take you over so dramatically. Like everyone else, I've had quite a hard time with a broken heart in the past,' said Vanessa, 51, in her VT.

'I've never experienced anything like this before, I know what people talk about when they say they really love it.'
