Helen Flanagan's parents have slammed those who've accused the former Coronation Street actress of playing a game in the I'm A Celebrity jungle.

Paul and Julia Flanagan insist viewers are seeing the 'real' Helen and confess that it was horrible having to watch their daughter get upset when taking part in Bushtucker Trials.

'They say she's a quitter and a fake but she's not doing badly now,' Paul tells Metro.

Some Twitter users claimed that Helen, 22, wasn't trying her best on her first five challenges after she surprisingly triumphed in the sixth.

But her grandfather Joe Flanagan says the blonde is just young for her age and had 'no idea' what she was getting herself in for.

'Our Helen is a lovely girl, but she lives in cloud cuckoo land. She walks around with her head in the clouds,' Joe tells The People.

'I thought: "She'll never make it, she's not safe to cross the road." She's never really been in the garden so taking on the Australian jungle is a huge challenge for her.'
