Gamu Nhengu didn't make Cheryl Cole's top 3 on The X Factor

ITV has received over 500 complaints after Gamu Nhengu failed to make it through to The X Factor live shows this weekend.

On Sunday's show, Cheryl Cole chose Rebecca Ferguson, Katie Waissel and Cher Lloyd for her top 3 - despite Katie and Cher breaking down during their judges' homes performances.

Now fans of Gamu, 18, are campaiging to have her reinstated, with one Facebook group even attracting over 115,000 members last night.

Viewers have also contacted TV watchdog Ofcom

Show bosses have already been forced to deny allegations Gamu was not picked because her student visa is running out.

Online reports claimed producers were worried the live finals would be thrown into chaos if the papers weren't renewed and she was sent back to Zimbabwe.

'Gamu's visa being processed was not the reason she did not make the final 12,' a spokesman tells the Daily Mirror.

The X Factor returns on Saturday at 7.40pm on ITV1.
