John Sergeant is being lined-up to star in BBC1 hospital drama Casualty.
The political journalist won over the nation's hearts when he took part on Strictly Come Dancing last year.
Now Casualty producers are keen to capitalise on his popularity.
‘John has plenty of experience of being on TV but always appeared as himself, not pretending to be a different person,’ a source tells the Sunday Mirror.
‘Obviously he's nervous about his first acting job, but he will be drawing on his experience in front of the camera to help him prepare for the role.
'He will star in an episode which will be screened later this year.’
John, 64, quit Strictly Come Dancing in November, saying that winning the competition would be a 'joke too far'.
