Oscar-winning actress faces drugs charges

Tatum O'Neal was arrested in New York and jailed overnight

Tatum O’Neal has been arrested for allegedly buying crack cocaine on a street near her New York home.

When approached by officers, the actress, 44, is reported to have claimed that she was ‘researching a part’.

She was jailed overnight and later charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, reports People.com.

Tatum, the daughter of actor Ryan O’Neal, won an Oscar for her role in the film Paper Moon.

The star has battled drug addiction since the age of 14 but successfully completed a stint in rehab in 1996.

Tatum's representative was unavailable for comment.
