American Idol is set to get a new female judge as award-winning songwriter and producer Kara DioGuardi joins Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson on the US show.
Kara, 37, has written 100s of hits songs including Ain't No Other Man for Christina Aguilera, Rich Girl for Gwen Stefani, Ooh Ooh Baby for Britney Spears and Forgiveness for Leona Lewis.
'We're turning the heat up on Idol this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges’ table,' says creator Simon Fuller.
'She's a smart, sassy lady and one of America's most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show.'
But speaking on a US radio station, former pop icon Paula revealed she's apprehensive about the change.
‘I'm concerned about the audience and acceptance,' she says. ‘Time will tell. We'll see.’
The 8th season of American Idol will start in January.
