Sandi Thom is devastated by claims her beloved cat Toots has been shot dead.
The pet went missing from the family home in Angus, Scotland, on 27 February.
But at the weekend, Animal Search UK - the agency Sandi hired to find the pet - received an anonymous call saying Toots was shot dead.
‘She's gone now,’ says Sandi. ‘I have to accept that but what I won't accept is that she died at the hands of a shooting.
‘The police have confirmed it is illegal to shoot a cat. However, to enable them to make an arrest, we have to find wee Tooty's remains.
‘All I want now is to find her, take her home and give her a dignified burial.’
Animal Search UK is urging members of the public to get in contact with any useful information.
‘We have received an anonymous allegation from a local source to suggest the very sad news that Toots has been savagely shot,’ spokesman Tom Watkins tells the Daily Record.
‘We would urge anyone in the community that has more information about what happened to Toots to come forward.’
