Hollyoaks’ Malachy Fisher is to be diagnosed as HIV positive.
He discovers he has the illness after he decides to give blood.
‘When you consider how many people are affected by HIV and AIDS, it makes you realise that while there have been huge medical breakthroughs in treatment, we still need to keep education and information in the spotlight,’ Glen Wallace, 32, who plays Malachy reveals.
‘We have a fantastic opportunity to do this with Malachy’s storyline as it’s a relevant and very much a real-life issue.’
Malachy, cross-dressing student Kris’s older brother in the Channel 4 soap, hides his illness from girlfriend Mercedes McQueen (played Jennifer Metcalfe).
His storyline begins in scenes aired on September 8.
