Kate Middelton recreates the Demi-Chignon for her first solo Royal engagment

For her first solo Royal engagement, Kate Middleton knew she'd be onto a winner if she recreated the hair that we all fell in love with in April.

Her Royal Hair-ness chose to wear her tresses in a Demi-Chignon to stand in for Prince Charles at the In Kind Direct Dinner.

The Middletons' family hairdresser Richard Ward reveals: 'When James Pryce and I were creating the style for the wedding, we decided to create the name "Demi-Chignon" for the classic half-up, half-down style so it had a more memorable, regal name for the Royal Wedding.

'This style works well with most hair textures. If you have thick, coarse hair then I'd suggest you blow-dry smooth using a real bristle radial brush first and then set in Velcro Rollers.

'Once removed, take random sections and tong into soft curls. For finer hair, you may want to cheat a little bit and add real hair wefts to create more body - real hair wefts will enable you to style the hair like your own too.'

'Once you have created the foundation - soft, frizz-free waves, you can start to create the Demi-Chignon style. Take sections on each side of the front and gently twist. Secure the back with discreet pins.'

It looked as if the Duchess of Cambridge had used weft extensions to give her own hair more body, but now it's been revealed that the line the cameras captured on the side of her head is actually a post-surgery scar.

'The scar related to a childhood operation,' says a St James's Palace spokesman for Kate, 29.
