Why change the habit of a lifetime? Cos it's making you fat! And Cameron Diaz is too smug to be a diet inspiration!

The weight debate
What the stars have been saying this week…
‘I’m not going to have a tummy tuck or liposuction. I’ve just got to work on it myself.’ The yummy mummy’s latest DVD, Davina – Fit In 15, is out now. I might just have to try it.
‘I’ve got a confession: I don’t like sugar’ Oh, do sod off Cameron Diaz. Her ‘love your body beautiful’,The Body Book, is out now. Bleurgh.
Diets suck. It’s been a week since I started my mission to lose weight and be healthy in 2014. Seven whole days. And I’m trying not to be bored already.
But there’s no chance of me jacking in all this fitness talk and glugging back a bottle of red wine while carefully cutting my pizza into squares. (Yes, I do that. Weird, I know.)
Because I went totally public last week, writing this blog and then posting the link on my Facebook. So there’s no going back now even if I wanted to.
Which, luckily I don’t.
The past week has been all about learning new habits and ditching my old ones. Because losing weight is going to be a marathon, not a sprint. (That’s probably the only time you’ll see me talking about running because I hate it!)
Habits I’m breaking
I’ve not had a drop of booze for over a week. I can if I want to. But like Ferne McCann I’m choosing not to indulge in a glass of red wine of an evening while watching Celebrity Big Brother. For now at least.
Finishing everything on my plate
Think this is a pretty common one. It’s what I was brought up to do. But once I’m full, I’m stopping.
Temptation in the office
It’s so easy to say yes to the yummy things sent into work. Crisps, cakes, you name it. The lovely people at E! sent me some Lola’s cupcakes last week. I took a pic and passed them on. *smug face*
I’m not banning carbs – at least not the good, complex carbohydrates like couscous and brown bread in moderation – but I have cut them out of most meals. Au revoir pain au chocolate!
Habits I’m creating
I’m trying very hard to drink 1.5l water every day at work. I drink tea and coffee constantly. So throwing in some H2O will do me some good.
I went to my first Zumba class last week. It was fun dancing to Elvis on a Wednesday lunchtime. I got up at 7.30am on Saturday morning and went swimming. Rebecca Adlington I am not. I have NEVER been swimming as a form of exercise in my adult life. I swam non-stop for an hour. The main motivation? OAP Betty who was in the pool when I got there and told me she swims every day. I refused to stop swimming until she did. Now I just need to get down the gym for some serious fat burning this week.
I’ve never been much of a snacker. But now I’m eating much healthier, I do end up getting a little hungry between meals. Which is why you’ll find a bowl of fruit on my desk. I’m working on swapping an apple/banana for celery/red pepper because I don’t want to overdo it on the fructose (fruit sugar). Bloody hell, I sounds like a diet bore!
Anyway… It’s been a busy week at work and I’ve been kinda freestyling the diet – my Diet Chef has arrived and I’ll start that tomorrow – and introducing exercise to my weekly routine too. I’ve already lost 2lb, so it’s been a good start…
