Emma Watson was born in Paris to English lawyers Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson in 1990. She has a brother named Alex.
Emma moved to Oxfordshire when she was five years old, where she attended the Dragon School. The actress later enrolled at Headington School.
From the age of six, Emma knew that she wanted to be an actress and began training at Stagecoach Theatre Arts.
Although Emma had never acted professionally before the Harry Potter series, she had performed and taken the lead in various productions and school plays.
In 1999, casting began for Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone - the film adaptation of British author JK Rowling's best-selling novel.
Agents discovered Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher and after eight auditions, she was told she had been cast in the role of the Hermione Granger.
The film's release in 2001 broke records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and Emma was often singled out for particular acclaim.
She continued to star in the eight-part series until the final film Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011.
Emma Watson became the youngest person to appear on the cover of Teen Vogue in 2005.
In June 2006, she took GCSEs in ten subjects and achieved eight A* and two A grades. Two years later, she received three As in her A Levels.
Emma's first role outside of Harry Potter was in 2007 BBC film Ballet Shoes. She also lent her voice to the role of Princess Pea in animated flick The Tale Of Despereaux.
She's since appeared in movies including My Week With Marilyn, Noah and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.
Emma made her modelling debut for Burberry's autumn/winter 2009 collection and was chosen again for the spring/summer 2010 range.
In the autumn of 2009, Emma started studying as a freshman at Brown University in Rhode Island.
After deferring her course for two semesters, she became a visitor student at the University Of Oxford for the 2011-12 academic year.
Emma Watson ended her two-year relationship with millionaire's son Will Adamowicz in summer 2013.
She met Oxford rugby player Matt Janney while at a varsity match in December 2013 and began dating him the following January.
In May 2014, she graduated from Brown University with a bachelor's degree in English literature.
That July, Emma was appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador.
