Cancer - your character

Lindsay Lohan (born 2 July 1986) is sensitive, charming and entertaining

Thursday, 19 June 2008

Element: Water

Ruling Planet: the Moon

Symbol: The crab

Lucky stone: Moonstone

You’d expect a sign symbolised by a creature that carries it’s home around on its back to be the gypsy of the universe but in fact Cancer – the legendary home-lover of the zodiac – prefers to stay in one place.

In the case of people born under this sign, the crab’s shell represents protection rather than a place to live.

The truth is Cancer types are so sensitive and their emotions and intuition so strong and close to the surface, that they can very easily be hurt by the individuals around them. They really do need a quiet and private place to withdraw whenever the stresses and strains of the world become too much to handle – which happens more often to them than to tougher, less caring signs.

This is not to say that Miss or Mr Cancer is timid or dull. True, people born under the sign of the crab are unlikely to be brash and loud but they possess a tremendous warmth and charm along with an unexpectedly sly and observant wit that makes them entertaining and enjoyable companions.

The Moon rules the tides of the ocean and the human emotions – which is why lunatics (who took their name from the Latin word for Moon) are affected by a full Moon. And since the Moon is also Cancer’s planetary ruler, it’s not surprising that people born under this sign wear their hearts on their sleeves. This has often left to accusations of moodiness but these are probably unfair.

We only notice Cancer’s changing moods because, unlike other signs, they don’t waste energy trying to conceal them. They can’t see anything to be ashamed of in an honest emotion, honestly expressed.

Miss and Mr Cancer are also incredibly sensitive to the feelings of others and can pick up the mood of a complete stranger in seconds with spooky accuracy.

In fact, like all water signs, Cancer is particularly psychic and should they fancy a career in this field they would do very well. For this reason Cancer people should always listen to their gut instincts and act on them. They’re seldom wrong.

Like their cosmic cousins Taurus, Cancer folk make splendid hosts. But where Taurus offers luxury and splendour, Cancer welcomes guests with warmth, cosiness and home cooking. People born under the sign of the crab are the best cooks in the zodiac and they’re born home-makers too.

Yet for all their delightful qualities it must never be forgotten that crabs are also equipped with huge, sharp claws. While these types would sooner scuttle away from confrontation, if a battle can’t be avoided they’re willing to fight and are quite capable of inflicting nasty wounds.

It’s a great mistake to assume that sweet, sympathetic Cancer can be pushed around. Behind that caring smile lies a strong will.

Cancer in love

Cancer lovers adore pampering the objects of their affections. They want someone to look after, someone to create a beautiful home for and someone to spoil with their tasty baking.

They’re quite prepared to make a tremendous effort to keep their loves one happy and will be sensitive to their feelings.

Only slight problem is that they’ll expect their sensitivity to be reciprocated – but unless their partner possesses the same legendary powers of intuition, that’s a hard act to follow.

Cancer is very easily bruised by the cares of the world and will retire hurt and misunderstood if their partner fails to notice what’s wrong. And once this particular crab has withdrawn into its shell, it’s not easy to persuade it out again.

Fellow water signs, Scorpio and Pisces will probably know best how to deal with the situation.
