Adele's life in pictures

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in Tottenham, London on 5 May 1988 to 19-year-old Penny Adkins and her partner, 22-year-old Mark Evans.

Mark left when Adele was three and a few years later spiralled into alcoholism.

He admits: 'I was a rotten father at a time when she really needed me.

'I was putting away 2ltr of vodka and seven or eight pints of Stella every day.'
