But Cheryl had been suffering from poor health before the show and as the tension mounts a nurse has to give her an anti-hysteria tablet to calm her down.

‘Before the audition I’d been clinically depressed and dangerously underweight,’ Cheryl recalls. ‘I was having terrible panic attacks and suffered from anxiety.’
