George Clooney & Don Cheadle

George Clooney has been named a United Nations 'messenger of peace'.

The Hollywood star is being honoured for his humanitarian work.

The 46-year-old is being 'recognised for focusing public attention on crucial international political and social issues,' UN spokeswoman Michele Montas announced yesterday.

George and pal Don Cheadle received the Peace Summit Award on 13 December for their work helping refugees in Darfur.

George, Don and Brad Pitt, have raised money through the Not On Our Watch charity and helped draw attention to the crisis in western Sudan.
