Sir Trevor McDonald plans to leave News At Ten later this year.

The TV presenter, 68, was persuaded out of retirement when ITV relaunched its flagship bulletin in January.

But it is thought he will quit after the US presidential elections in November.

‘Sir Trevor is still enjoying presenting the news but he has done what he set out to do,’ a source tells the Daily Mirror.

‘He has relaunched News At Ten and ratings have got better recently.

'So he feels it could be a good time to hand over the reins to Mark Austin.’

The show currently draws in 2.5million viewers.
