Actor Ian Smith wants to be challenged
Tuesday, 12 February 2008
Neighbours star Ian Smith has a shock confession – he wants to play a pimp in his next role.
The actor, who plays church-goer Harold Bishop in the Australian soap, recently quit the show after 20 years.
He says he wants to try something new – but his drastic change of image could upset some of his devoted fans.
‘I’ve loved playing Harold, but I’d much rather turn up in The Bill as a baddie,’ he tells Daily Star Sunday.
‘[I'd like to play] a real nasty piece of work, like a pimp. It would definitely raise a few eyebrows and be completely different to what people expect of me.’
But while the 65-year-old is in search of meatier roles, the door has been left open for him to return to the soap if he chooses.
Neighbours has now moved from BBC1 to Channel 5.
