Hollyoaks' Ricky Whittle talks love and romance

His character Calvin Valentine is about to get married to Carmel McQueen. Off screen 26-year-old Ricky is dating Carley Stenson, the show's Steph Dean

What are Calvin and Carmel’s chances are of living happily ever after?
They are really suited, the most moral, ‘good’ characters in the show. I’ve got hope for them!

What sort of wedding would you like them to have?
I’d have dragged everyone to a beach abroad so the cast could have a huge piss up!

Who would you like to see your character have a fling with?
It would have to be Steph Dean. They would be wild, passionate scenes – they’d have to tone it down!

Do you get marriage proposals from fans?
I’ve had a few. But the strangest thing I’ve seen was a woman who had ‘Calvin’ tattooed in a very intimate area.

What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
I’m a very romantic person. I once gave Carley a present and told her she couldn’t open until a certain date at a certain time. It was a mobile phone and I text her at that time with a riddle, which sent her on a treasure hunt around places that are special to us. The last clue sent her to her mum’s, who gave her an overnight bag and sent her back to mine – where there was a satnav waiting with directions to follow. That took her to where I was waiting to whisk her down to London, see a show and stay in a 5-star hotel.

What’s your best chat-up line?
Do you know who I am? No, I’m joking, please don’t use that! I’ve never used chat-up lines, I don’t have the gift of the gab. The best I’ve heard? I was chatting to a girl and didn’t know her name. When I asked what to call her, she said ‘Anytime after midnight.’ Good answer.

What sort of wedding would you like?
I have always thought beach weddings are beautiful. A sunset ceremony with a beautiful sky, white drapes and fire lanterns… Something low-key and romantic.

Who was your first love?
Pamela Anderson! I had to see Baywatch every Saturday. I met her recently on The Sunday Night Project. When I first saw her, it was like I was on Baywatch. Everything went into slow motion, there was a wind machine, I heard music… She smiled as she went past and I was literally speechless!

Describe your ideal partner?
Blonde, actress, slim, beautiful, mad… I think you know who I’m talking about.

You can be yourself.

Who would be your dream celeb date?
Megan Fox – she’s incredible.

Could you and Carley be Hollyoaks’ first off-screen bride and groom?
It’s too soon to say, but who knows!

How would you describe yourself in a lonely hearts ad?
Tall, dark, adventurous, very ambitious, wacky sense of humour… willing to do anything. Actually, that sounds a bit desperate, doesn’t it?
