When Coronation Street star Kym Marsh first found fame as a singer, she turned her back on the critics who had cruelly dubbed her ‘fat' in reality show Popstars.

‘I really piled on the pounds when I was in Hear'Say,' she admitted. 'We'd been locked in a safe house before our identity was revealed to the Press, so we didn't really have anything else to do but eat and watch videos.

'But I'm quite a strong person, so I was determined to slim down.'

Kym steered clear of fad diets and was keen to follow a healthy eating and exercise plan that she could adopt in the long-term.

'I absolutely adore Cadbury Creme Eggs. But these days I only eat half a bar of chocolate and throw the rest in the bin,' she explained. 'That way I'm not tempted to scoff the lot.'

Kym also took up running and bought herself exercise equipment to use at home.

‘I'm not a big fan of the gym, so I decided to buy a cross-trainer and treadmill. There's no point wasting money on a gym membership if I'm never going to go.

‘These days, I stick a video of Only Fools And Horses on and run on my treadmill while I watch it. At least I know when the video finishes that I've done a good 30-minute workout.'
