Samia and husband Matthew Smith have decided to separate

Samia and Matthew Smith are ending their marriage

Coronation Street star Samia Smith and her husband Matthew have split after five years of marriage.

The separation comes just a year after Samia, 28 - who plays hairdresser Maria Connor in the soap - gave birth to their baby daughter Freya.

'This is a mutual decision and no one else is involved,' say the couple.

In November, Samia enthused about her husband and and how they kept their romance alive.

'Matt and I have date nights and go for a nice meal together,' the told Now.

'Matt will take me out and say: "Let's not talk about Freya for a couple of hours."

'He's really good whereas I'll talk about her all the time.'

Samia married property developer Matthew, 34, in September 2005.
