Radio presenter and boyfriend Tom Smith welcome first child

New mum: Edith Bowman has a boy

Edith Bowman has given birth to her first child.

The Radio 1 DJ delivered a little boy at London's Portland Hospital yesterday, with boyfriend Tom Smith, 27, by her side.

Editors frontman Tom and Edith, 33, have dated since 2005.

The pair named their son Rudy Brae Bowman Smith.

'Everyone at Radio 1 sends their love and best wishes to Edith and Tom,' station controller Andy Parfitt said.

Edith had a planned caesarean because a heart defect meant she could die during a natural birth.

She has a bicuspid aortic valve, a condition which puts extra pressure on the heart.

Both mum and baby are said to be doing well.
