Simon Cowell has revealed that he felt 'sick' when Will Young won Pop Idol.
Singer Will, 32, stuck up for himself on the 2002 live show after Simon damned his performance as 'average' - and though the music mogul's response was to call him a 'gentleman', it seems behind the scenes it was a very different story.
'I thought he was obnoxious, full of himself,' says Simon, 52.
'I thought, "This will be interesting. You don't like me and I don't like you".
'Nothing's changed, particularly.'
Simon admits he was desperate for Will's fellow finalist Gareth Gates, 27, to take the Pop Idol crown.
'I felt sick. That's how much it affected me,' he admits on ITV1 documentary The Talent Show.
'I still, to this day, can't watch the final back because I was really, really disappointed.
'I really liked Gareth and wanted him to win.'
The Talent Show airs on Saturday 7 January on ITV1 at 8.30pm.
