Katy Perry celebrates New Year dancing with mystery man while Russell Brand has quiet night in

After filing for divorce, Russell greets 2012 without his usual smile

Katy Perry and Russell Brand welcomed the New Year in very different ways.

Russell greeted 2012 quietly in his suite at London's Savoy Hotel, while Katy celebrated with pals in Hollywood. 

'He wasn't up for celebrating and just ordered food to his room,' a fellow guest tells the Mirror.

'The next morning he was in the gym from 11am and spent two hours there.'

Katy enjoyed a night of dancing with pals at private members' club Soho House and was seen 'twirling around and holding hands' with a male friend.

'She seemed to be in a great mood, she was dancing and laughing,' an onlooker tells the New York Post.

American TV bosses are reported to be desperate to get Katy and Russell to talk about their split on air. 

Producers for Piers Morgan Tonight and The Ellen DeGeneres Show are said to be vying with each other to secure an exclusive chat about the couple's marriage breakdown.

Comedian Russell, 36, filed for divorce from Katy, 27, last week after just 14 months of marriage - but no-one knows why.

In court documents, Russell cites simply 'irreconcilable differences'.
