Gordon Ramsay fronts reality series Kitchen Nightmares

The opening night of Gordon Ramsay's new Canadian restaurant ended in disaster after the sprinkler system went off.

Montreal's Laurier Gordon Ramsay was described as 'affordable glam' by the TV chef but its debut was abandoned on Wednesday.

'We experienced a malfunction with our sprinkler equipment and the restaurant was evacuated,' a restaurant spokesman tells the Daily Record.

'The situation is under control.'

Before the opening Gordon, 44, said he wished people would assess him based on his cooking rather than how he comes across on television.

'I get judged more as a persona from TV, which is a pain in the butt, to be honest,' he told Canadian press.

'I have 3 Michelin stars. Judge me on the plate, not me on the TV.'
