Jackson Walsh's assisted suicide shocks Emmerdale fans

Complaints roll in after harrowing scenes before the watershed

Emmerdale fans are outraged after 'harrowing' scenes of Jackson Walsh's assisted suicide were broadcast on Tuesday before the 9pm watershed.

Over 7 milliion viewers saw the episode and 'dozens' of complaints rolled in to Ofcom after wheelchair-bound Jackson, played by 22-year-old Marc Silcock, was shown taking a cocktail of drugs, helped by gay lover Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller).

Emmerdale chiefs have defended the scenes.

'We're very proud of the way we have tackled the story,' say producers Stuart Blackburn and Steve November.

'It is our hope that this will make people think about this sensitive issue.'

Ofcom have said a full investigation will be decided upon at the conclusion of the storyline.
