Cheryl Cole's Geordie twang puzzled American audiences but veteran actress Joan Collins reckons she didn't deserve to be chucked off The X Factor.
'I feel sad for her as I went to Hollywood when I was 21 and they didn't understand me,' the 78-year-old recalls.
'They gave me lessons and I got an American accent - now I'm inbetween.
'Cheryl got a bad deal as they knew she talked like that before.'
Cheryl, 27, refused to change her voice, despite having had vocal coaching for almost a year.
‘I'd never change my accent. It's part of who I am,' she said defiantly.
But it seems to have become her big downfall.
'When they started shooting in Chicago the contestants had
trouble understanding her and that threw the bosses into a panic,' Now's insider reveals.
‘They had to re-shoot a few auditions because of it.
'Cheryl
was embarrassed and apologised several times, but it quickly became a
big issue - especially because no one had any problems with Steve Jones's Welsh twang.'
