Actress's illness leaves co-stars shaken

Coronation Street is the world's longest running soap

Coronation Street favourite Betty Driver is believed to be battling pneumonia.

After fighting off a chest infection last year, the 90-year-old actress is now in hospital again.

Betty - who plays barmaid Betty Williams - has been making her hot pots at the Rovers Return for 42 years.

'I love working on the Street because everyone in it is like my family,' Betty admits.

'I don't want to leave at all - I want to die on set.'

Betty's serious illness has shocked fellow cast members and producers have had to re-write her scenes.

'Betty has been taken to hospital,' a Corrie spokeswoman confirms.

'We are all wishing her a speedy recovery.'
