Cheryl Cole's now off the US X Factor panel, with stunning Nicole Scherzinger ready to take her place alongside Paula Abdul.

Paula, 48, is determined not to be outshone by anyone on the show and has spent a small fortune getting ‘refreshed'.

‘She's getting Botox and fillers, daily massages and weekly oxygen facials,' a friend tells us.

‘She's doing two-hour workouts and dance sessions every day, has a personal nutritionist and chef cooking her healthy meals and is having Brazilian blow-dries to keep her hair frizz-free.

'Paula has the best beauty team money can buy.'

The 80s chart-topper definitely likes to be queen bee.

‘She loves to hog the camera and she's tough to work with,' says our insider.

'It's all about her ego and she has very little compassion for anyone else.

'Paula's always been a loose cannon, with her alleged drug problems and the claim that she slept with a contestant.'

The 80s chart-topper has courted controversy ever since joining American Idol in 2002.

In 2005, she faced an outcry when contestant Corey Clark said she'd seduced him - a claim she always denied.

At the time Simon came her defence, calling Corey a ‘creep' who was using her for publicity.

The mad bad world of Abdul continued with out-of-control public appearances and strange interviews, including one in which she allegedly admitted to a spell in rehab for a prescription drug addiction, saying:

‘I could have killed myself. Withdrawal - it's the worst thing. I was freezing cold, then sweating hot and in so much pain. It was excruciating.'

But in a move that would give Charlie Sheen a run for his money, a week later she denied the addiction claims and insisted she'd only been to a spa.
