Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi has revealed in a new memoir that she was date raped 10 years ago.

The songwriter had returned from dinner with a 'fairly known producer' when he forced himself on her. 

'Within a few hours, he was on top of me, pumping, sweating, and speaking to me in Spanish, not a word of which I could understand,' she writes in her autobiography A Helluva High Note.

Kara, 40, who starred in series 8 and 9 of American Idol, told the man to stop but was too scared to fight back as she thought he'd become violent.

In the memoir, she also opens up about being molested by a family friend's son when she was just 11.

'On one particular day, he took me into the back shed of his house and put his hands all over my [body],' she writes.

'I remember freezing and not knowing what to do.'
