Corrie actress Katherine Kelly wants to try new roles

Katherine Kelly is to leave Coronation Street at the end of the year.

The actress - who has played Becky McDonald in Corrie since 2006 - wants to try new things.

'It's been one of the hardest decisions of my life,' says Katherine, 31. 'I love Coronation Street and everyone here.

'I have had the most blissful 5 years. I wouldn't change a moment of it - but it feels like the time is right to say goodbye to Becky.'  

Katherine will bow out with an explosive storyline that will kick off next month.

'Viewers can look forward to an electrifying nine months of gripping storylines involving Becky,' adds Corrie boss Phil Collinson.
