Jessica Simpson: The US X Factor job is right up my alley

Jessica Simpson has confirmed she's in the running to nab a judging job on The US X Factor.

A string of names have been bandied about as potentials to sit next to Simon Cowell, 51, with - or instead of - Geordie singer and UK judge Cheryl Cole, 27.

'They have definitely talked to me about X Factor,' Jessica, 30, reveals to Women's Wear Daily.

'I think it would be a lot of fun. It's definitely my life.

'To be a mentor for up-and-coming artists is right up my alley. I would have loved to have a mentor.

'I love watching people's dreams come true.'

Simon, 51, recently confirmed record executive Antonio LA Reid, 54, as the first judge to sit alongside him for the show's launch this year.

Meanwhile, Cheryl's hopes only get slimmer.

'She may now have to settle for a mentoring role on US X Factor,' a friend of Simon's tells the Sunday Mirror.

'Fox don't feel she's a big enough name to be a judge - it's as simple as that.

'But in his heart Simon had known this moment had been coming.

'Increasingly Cheryl's possible position on the new show has become more precarious.

'He feels terrible.'
