Gordon Ramsay: My swollen face was caused by petrol attack and allergy

The TV chef is feeling a lot better now

Gordon Ramsay was told to leave Costa Rica for his own safety

Gordon Ramsay has denied his strange Cabbage Patch doll face earlier this month was the result of a hair transplant - or cosmetic surgery.

The celebrity chef was snapped looking pale and puffy but insists the unfortunate swelling was due to an assault and an allergy.

'I had petrol doused, gasoline poured all over my hair and I had a horrific infection,' he says. 'It certainly didn't cause my hair to be falling out.'

Gordon, 44, feared for his life while filming a new Channel 4 TV show in Costa Rica

Investigating illegal shark hunting in the country for Gordon's Shark Bait, the celebrity chef upset some pretty scary 'fishermen' and narrowly escaped being set on fire - and shot.

Then, while holidaying with the Beckhams, Gordon found he was allergic to horses.

'I was in Napa for Christmas two weeks after the shoot and went riding with the kids,' he recalls.

'I had a horrendous allergic reaction to the horses combined with the problems I had with my scalp, so it was just a hair nightmare.

'They all got sorted out. I can now say that I am almost 60-70 per cent recovered.'
