Wagner Carrilho loses out in The X Factor sing-off with Mary Byrne

Support for Wagner finally wasn't enough

X Factor eccentric Wagner Carrilho's extraordinary time on the show has come to an end.

The Brazilian survived 8 weeks but ended up in the bottom three with Katie Waissel and Mary Byrne.

Katie had the fewest number of public votes so left first, then Wagner lost out in the sing-off with fellow Over 28s contestant Mary, 50.

'I have achieved so much and I'm so pleased,' Wagner told Dermot O'Leary after getting the judges' verdict, hugging the host as he has always done.

'I'm very happy but I miss my cat very much.'

The finalists are Rebecca Ferguson, One Direction, Cher Lloyd, Mary and a very relieved Matt Cardle.

'I have a really terrible feeling that bloody Wagner is going to win,' Matt, 27, said last week.

Wagner, 54, has collected over 46,000 friends on Facebook fan page Wagner To Win X Factor.

Simon Cowell admitted that he was very relieved that those who'd been trying to 'de-rail' the competition had failed.

Last year, a Facebook campaign helped Rage Against The Machine beat The X Factor 2009 winner Joe McElderry to Christmas No 1.
