Kate Garraway is still friends with Ian Rumsey

Kate Garraway's ex-husband is joining GMTV - as her new boss.

Ian Rumsey will take over as the show's editor in June.

Kate divorced Ian in 2003 after 5 years of marriage but has rubbished suggestions things could get awkward on set.

'I have seen first hand what a brilliant journalist Ian is,' says Kate, 43. ‘His arrival is great news.'

Ian insists he is excited about working with his ex again.

'I've always had the utmost respect for Kate as a TV journalist,' he tells the Daily Mirror.

‘She's enormously experienced and talented. We are friends outside of the office and remain in regular contact.

'I'm delighted to be taking over the reins at GMTV. It needs to be back where it belongs - on top.'

Kate is now married to former political adviser Derek Draper, 42.

They are parents to Darcey, 4, and William, 10 months.
