Matt Smith loves being the current Doctor Who, though many fans of David Tennant still miss his him.

But the second Doctor, Patrick Troughton, was actually Matt's favourite.

'David [Tennant] was great as well,' he says quickly. 'I hope what I've done with the character is true to who he is and what he's been through.

Matt, 28, didn't watch Doctor Who when he was a child - because the series had gone off air.

'I grew up in those barren years when Doctor Who wasn't on,' he tells The Sun.

'I'm sure if it was I would have idolised him just like millions of kids do now.'

Matt is the youngest ever Doctor - but only by two years. Peeter Davison was 29 when he took up residence in the Tardis in 1981.
