Nicollette Sheridan has launched a $20million lawsuit against the creator of Desperate Housewives - accusing him of assault.
The actress, who played Edie Britt in the series, alleges Marc Cherry struck her during a rehearsal on set on 28 September 2008.
‘When Sheridan questioned Cherry about something that was in the script, Cherry took her aside and forcefully hit her with his hand across her face and head,' read papers filed at Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday.
Nicollette, 46, is also suing Marc and network ABC for wrongful termination of her contract, claiming her character was written out of the show when she complained to bosses.
‘The decision to kill off Sheridan's character demonstrates that Cherry and ABC intended to and did retaliate against Sheridan for her complaints about Cherry,' reads the lawsuit.
‘It is exceptionally unusual for a popular character to be killed off or written out of a television series unless the actor has requested to be released from his or her contract.'
ABC has now issued a statement, saying: ‘While we have yet to see the actual complaint, we investigated similar claims made by Ms Sheridan last year and found them to be without merit.'
