Cheryl Cole says Joe McElderry's time on The X Factor is like her own reality TV experience.
The judge, who won Popstars: The Rivals, and Joe, 18, are both from the Newcastle area.
'Even just watching him and how his family reacts to him brings back memories,' she told a press conference.
Cheryl and Joe visited his hometown of South Shields this week and she felt right at home with his relatives.
'It was like being up the road with my aunties, even the things they were saying, the emotions they were expressing - it takes me right back.'
