Viewers left wondering which character dies

Marcia Cross plays Bree Hodge in Desperate Housewives

The grim reaper is visiting Desperate Housewives.

In an episode which aired in the States on Sunday, a plane crashes in Wisteria Lane as the residents hold their annual street Christmas party. 

The ending makes it clear that at least one character dies. 

The last shot features a flattened grotto - which Marcia Cross's character Bree Hodge was in moments earlier. 

Viewers will find out exactly what happens when the show returns in January.
