Coronation Street star Maggie Jones's condition is improving following surgery.

The actress, 75, who plays Blanche Hunt in the ITV soap, was taken seriously ill at the weekend.

Maggie is recovering at a hospital in Salford, Greater Manchester.

‘She seems to have turned a corner,' says a spokesperson for Granada TV.

‘There has been an improvement in Maggie's condition and we are all encouraged by this news.'

Maggie has been written out of Corrie until the New Year.

Co-star Bill Tarmey, who plays Jack Duckworth, hopes she's back on set soon.

'Maggie is a delight,' he tells the Daily Mirror. 'We sit and laugh together.

'I need her to get better or I will be sitting on my own.'
