Shakira to star in Ugly Betty

Singer will play herself in US show

Shakira's cameo will air in November

Shakira is to make a cameo in Ugly Betty.

The singer, 32, will appear in an episode to be aired in November.

‘She will be shooting her scenes in New York, but they will [appear] in the Bahamas episode,' confirms a rep for US network ABC.

Bosses are hoping Shakira's role will be a hit with viewers.

‘We had a very memorable moment in the third episode where Betty has a makeover that goes wrong and she struts down the street to Hips Don't Lie,' show runner Silvio Horta tells People.

‘She's an enormous Latina icon, as is Betty, and we thought it was a perfect fit.'

The new series of Ugly Betty kicks off in the States on 9 October.
