Prime Suspect being remade for US

New show will be aired on NBC

Dame Helen Mirren rose to fame on Prime Suspect

Cult murder mystery show Prime Suspect is being remade for the States.

The programme, which starred Dame Helen Mirren as police chief Jane Tennison, ran for seven series on ITV between 1991 and 2006.

Now Hollywood scriptwriter Hank Steinberg is penning a two-hour pilot for NBC.

‘Our intention is to create another classic television show from this brilliant original format,’ NBC's Angela Bromstad tells the BBC.

Hank Steinberg was key in helping us secure this project, and we are incredibly excited about this modern vision for the show.’

Prime Suspect – created by Lynda La Plante - aired in the US in 1992 on Boston-based network WGBH.
