David Hasselhoff became a worldwife pin-up after starring in Baywatch

Cult US series Baywatch is being made into a tongue-in cheek comedy by Paramount.

Jeremy Garelick, who had apparently never seen the show about lifeguards in California, will write and direct the project.

'It felt like I had the template to do a movie that was similar to Stripes and Police Academy, the comedies I loved growing up,’ he tells Variety.

David Hasselhoff, 56, and Pamela Anderson played Mitch Buchannon and CJ Parker in the original.
