Cheryl Cole shot to fame on Popstars: The Rivals

Cheryl Cole celebrated her birthday at The X Factor auditions yesterday.

The Girls Aloud star attended a live audience show at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre.

‘Cheryl was in a great mood, laughing and chatting to fans,’ says an onlooker.

Her husband Ashley Cole, 28, who was snapped carrying a gift, apparently surprised her at work and took her for lunch.

Later, judge Simon Cowell, 49, got the audience to sing Happy Birthday.

‘I did promise Cheryl I wouldn't say anything,’ he said. ‘But today is her birthday. It's a significant one as it begins with a three…ha ha ha.’
