Late star is honoured on actor's island retreat

Johnny Depp was close friends with Heath Ledger

Johnny Depp has named a beach on his private island in the Bahamas after Heath Ledger.

The actor’s Little Hall's Pond Cay retreat boasts six sandy strips, one of which is called Heath's Place.

‘You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats - it's instant freedom and a little morsel of anonymity,’ Johnny, 45, tells Vanity Fair.

‘That rare beast - simplicity - can be had. [Life on the island] is my decompression. It's my way of trying to return to normalcy. Escapism is survival to me.’

All of the other beaches have been given their own titles too.

Johnny has named three after partner Vanessa Paradis, 36, and their kids Lily Rose, 10, and Jack, 7.
