Oprah Winfrey is keeping fans up-to-date about the wildfires in southern California on Twitter.

She's posted several tweets about the bushfires that continue to devastate the Santa Barbara area.

'Thank God the winds died down in Santa B. And fog rolled in,' she wrote on the micro-blogging site on Saturday.

She later added: 'The fire moved up the mountain burning grassland. Praying the winds don’t change.'

In her latest update, she says: 'Right now everything looks good as the weather cooled, the winds are favourable and the firefighters are making a lot of progress.'

It's thought the talk show host, 55, could be forced to abandon her home in Montecito.

‘The fires are nearby, but her house is not within the mandatory evacuation area,’ says her rep. ‘We're continuing to monitor.’

More than 30,500 people have been evacuated from their homes on the edge of Santa Barbara.
