Danniella Westbrook to return to EastEnders

Actress will start filming comeback scenes this summer

Danniella Westbrook first took on the role of Sam Mitchell in 1990

Danniella Westbrook has confirmed she'll reprise her role as Sam Mitchell in EastEnders.

Her character was last seen in the show when Sam went to Brazil in 1996.

'I'm really happy,' she says. 'It feels just like I'm coming home.

'I'm looking forward to working with others and I can't wait to get the scripts to see what Sam has been up to since she left the square.'

Sam Mitchell made a return to the square from 2002 – 2005 but was played by Kim Metcalfe.

'It feels like a great time to bring back Sam,' says executive producer Diederick Santer.
